Calgary International Hockey Academy (2) vs Shawnigan Lake School (3) U18 Prep
Shawnigan Lake School’s U18 Prep showcase had been disappointing heading into Sunday, losing their first two games, while Calgary International Hockey Academy followed up a win over Yale with a loss against RHA Kelowna. The only goal of the first period came from SLS’ Nigel Alberts, who scored 16 in the U18 Prep division last year for Shawnigan. The two teams would trade second-period goals, but following that, Alberts struck again, making it 3-1 Shawnigan late in the second period. CIHA threw everything they could at Shawnigan, but Liam Ryan (34/36) was stellar throughout the last two periods. CIHA would score to pull the game within one in the third period, but were ultimately unsuccessful in completing the comeback, with Ryan’s performance in between the pipes and Alberts’ two goals leading the way for Shawnigan’s victory.
Prairie Hockey Academy (2) vs Edge School (4) U15
Prairie Hockey Academy’s U15 squad deserves plaudits for their battle with Edge School on Sunday; with that being said, though, PHA would have been out of it early if not for goaltender Cameron Rusyniak (54/57). Edge dominated the first period and led 1-0 after one, but it was only for Rusyniak’s 23 first-period saves that Prairie stayed in the contest. The two teams would swap goals on their own respective second-period power plays, with Edge heading into the third period still ahead by a goal. Prairie kept their foot on the gas pedal from there on, and down by a goal, their pressure would be rewarded with just over five minutes left in the third period. Titan Sauter scored to tie the game for Prairie, pulling them back to level ground after trailing by two, but the reprieve from the deficit didn’t last. Jake Sander scored for Edge a mere 37 seconds after the game was tied, and Edge would lock things down defensively to ensure the victory, aided by an empty net goal.
St. George’s School (1) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (14) U15
St. George’s School and Delta Hockey Academy Black’s U15 squads played a 60-minute game, but it wasn’t a contest for that long. Alan Qiu scored for St. George’s to give them a 1-0 lead, one that’d be quickly nullified by a DHAB equalizer, and from there, Delta had control of the game they wouldn’t cease. Delta would score four goals in barely over three minutes in the first to establish a big lead, and without stopping the offensive push, they’d keep filling the St. George’s net from there. Zach Giles (3G, 3A) posted a hat-trick and six points, Bentley Gillis (2G, 3A) notched five points, and Stefano Trentalance (3G, 1A) got in on the fun with a hat-trick himself, with DHAB scoring 14 goals on their 71 shots on target in the game.
Calgary International Hockey Academy (7) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (6) U15 Prep
It’s hard to articulate a narrative to Sunday morning’s U15 Prep game between Calgary International Hockey Academy and RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg without using the word chaos. That’s somewhat defined CIHA’s season to date, with every game being high-event, high-scoring hockey. Calgary’s weekend in Manitoba started with RHAW, winning 5-4 on Thursday, and ended with them on Sunday. RHA Winnipeg started the game like a team that hadn’t played since Thursday, facing a team in their fourth game in four days. CIHA’s legs took a few minutes to get going, but RHAW did a lot of damage in that time, opening up a 3-0 lead in the first four and a half minutes of the game. However, CIHA responded from there, and their offensive pushback provided the first swing of momentum back the other way. Such a momentum swing was a theme of the game; CIHA scored three goals to pull the game back to a deadlock. From there, though, RHAW found the wind in their sails for a chunk of the second period, making good on it, taking a 5-3 lead heading into the last five minutes of the second period. Then, yet again, momentum swung. CIHA cashed in on the final five minutes of the second period in a big way, with goals from Kai Dingwall (1G, 1A), Liam Nycholat, and Cole Chudyk (2G, 2A) turning the game on its head, giving CIHA a 6-5 lead heading into the third period. Loic Lebel extended Calgary’s lead to 7-5, and while RHAW would cut the lead down to one, CIHA survived, winning yet another high-scoring barn-burner 7-6.
Northern Alberta Xtreme (5/OT) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (4) U17
Much like the previous game between CIHA and RHAW in the U15 Prep division, Sunday’s U17 matchup between the Northern Alberta Xtreme and Prairie Hockey Academy was yet another example of a game in which the offensive output followed the back-and-forth swings in momentum. The first period alone swung both ways, with Prairie scoring twice early, followed by a pair of NAX goals late to send the game into the second period. The momentum would temporarily stay in NAX’s hands to start the second, and they made good by taking a 3-2 lead, but again, the script flipped, and Prairie wrestled the game back. Soren Hayden scored his second, and a pair of assists from Jake Myhre (3A) helped send PHA into the third with a 4-3 lead, one they’d hold for the near entirety of the third period. They’d hold that lead until the final seconds, when NAX would finally strike back, with Kaiden Chartrand (1G, 1A) tying the game with nine seconds to go in the third. The back-and-forth overtime ended in NAX completing the comeback, thanks to Ethan Lobay’s overtime winner, helping NAX to the 5-4 win over PHA.
Okanagan Hockey Academy (5) vs STAR Hockey Academy (3) U17
STAR Hockey Academy’s season so far had seen them play two games in each of three straight weekends – losing twice to Delta Hockey Academy and BWC Academy, before two wins over the North Shore Warriors. The Okanagan Hockey Academy squad prevailed 3-0 on Saturday night in the first of the two games against STAR, coming off two losses in their last three games. Aaron Comer scored for STAR early in the first period, giving his team a lead. One, unfortunately for STAR, that would stand as the only one they’d have in the entire game. Okanagan came from behind to take a lead, with Hudson Wicharuk (1G, 2A) tying the game late in the first and Tyler Donaldson giving OHA the lead early in the second. Deacon Wilson (1G, 1A) tied the game for STAR, but from there, it was OHA’s game. Nathan Marques scored his first of two goals not long after, and Wyatt Bryant (1G, 1A) scored his first of the season to give OHA a two-goal lead. Marques scored on a third-period power play, and OHA prevailed 5-3.
RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (1) vs North Shore Warriors (5) U18 Prep
The U18 Prep squad for the North Shore Warriors hasn’t yet played a game in which they lost in the sixty minutes; after a 1-0 win over Yale, they lost once in a shootout and once in overtime. Their Sunday afternoon battle with RHA Winnipeg was nothing but high-event hockey, and while their offensive production was far from lacking, goaltender Elias Mitrikas was an absolute stud throughout. North Shore’s offence throughout the first two periods helped them score four goals on RHAW, but the 30 saves Mitrikas made over the span of forty minutes helped the Warriors establish the four-goal lead. RHAW pushed throughout the third, but Mitrikas was there at nearly every turn, eventually making 49 saves on 50 shots in a 5-1 win for North Shore.
Okanagan Hockey Academy (0) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6) Female U18 Prep
RINK Hockey Academy’s Female U18 squad have been rolling through their schedule so far, only defeated in a 5-4 thriller at the hands of OHA Edmonton last weekend. They not only prevailed in each of their other four games, but they’ve done so in dominant fashion, including shutting out Okanagan Hockey Academy Saturday night. That trend continued into Sunday, hitting the net with 44 shots, nearly doubling OHA’s output. Julianne Hendriks in the RHAK net stopped each of the 23 shots she faced, and Leni Redden scored a natural hat-trick, giving RHAK another dominant victory, further establishing themselves as one of the best teams in the Female U18 Prep this year.
Okanagan Hockey Academy (7) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (1) U17 Prep
The good run of form that has seen Okanagan Hockey Academy’s U17 Prep squad earn three wins out of four games to start the season, a streak they looked to continue Sunday against the Wenatchee Wild. Wenatchee’s early-season struggles, unfortunately for them, only continued into this game. That was reflected in Ollie Halowaty’s two goals at the start of the first period, sending OHA on its way. All in all, OHA outshot Wenatchee 53-16 in the game, and thanks to fifteen different skaters chipping in with points, Okanagan won 7-1. Wenatchee’s struggles leave them still winless to start the season.
Yale Hockey Academy (4) vs St. George’s School (6) U17 Prep
Sunday’s game between Yale Hockey Academy and St. George’s School in the U17 Prep division was the tale of two different games; one in the first forty minutes, and one for the final twenty minutes. The first two periods were dominated by St. George’s School, as evidenced by their 6-0 lead through two periods, led by two goals and three points from Felix Hang. St. George’s third period resembled that of a team that entered the period thinking the game was already settled. Yale Hockey Academy took advantage of the opportunity to mount a comeback, and with a strong push in the third period, they made a contest out of things. Nicholas Voinea scored twice, helping Yale score four in the third. While commendable, the comeback effort was unsuccessful, and St. George’s held on for the win.
Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (1) U18 Prep
Pilot Mound Hockey Academy and Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy’s U18 Prep teams have both had a mixed bag of results to start the season, with both teams on two wins and two losses off the hop. As has been the case for Pilot Mound all season, the result they earned was earned for them by their best player. Knox Burton scored in the second period to give PMHA the lead before CDA tied things up. Burton would score again quickly after the game was tied to give PMHA the lead. Hector Kapitonov extended PMHA’s lead to 3-1, one that wouldn’t be threatened from there, helping Pilot Mound to improve their record back above .500.
Edge School (2) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep
Edge School’s U18 Prep team started with a heavy defeat at the hands of Calgary International Hockey Academy in their first game, but bounced back by winning the first two games of the U18 Prep showcase. Pacific Coast Hockey Academy lost its first three games of the season, but had bounced back Saturday with a 5-1 win over SAHA. The Edge School Mountaineers dominated the game throughout; however, PCHA made good on their chances. Edge controlled the game at five-on-five, but Pacific Coast’s power play proved potent. Grady Veary (1G, 1A), Roman Lavery (1G, 2A), and Brayden Barker all scored goals on the man advantage, goals that wouldn’t have proved the difference without the player of the game. PCHA goaltender Kole Anderosov made 63 saves on the 65 shots that Edge threw on goal, and while they beat him twice, Anderosov’s heroics prevented Edge from even taking a lead in the game, helping PCHA to the underdog win.
North Shore Warriors (0) vs BWC Academy (4) U17
Burnaby Winter Club Academy’s U17 squad had an opponent on the docket in a slump to start the season. The North Shore Warriors had lost their previous five games big, scoring just one goal in those five games, and unfortunately for the Warriors, that trend would continue. BWC’s U17 team have had a mix of results this season, twice following up big wins with tight losses against the same opponents in the second half of back-to-backs. BWC’s Max Joseph helped make absolutely sure his team would emerge victorious, scoring twice in the first, before completing his hat-trick in the third period. While Ethan Watson didn’t have a massive workload, North Shore still hit his net with 21 shots, all of which were aved by the BWC goaltender in his shutout.
RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (5) vs OHA Edmonton (12) U17
OHA Edmonton’s U17 season has been largely filled with high-scoring games, a trend that would continue into Sunday. OHAE lost their first three games, but followed it up with four straight wins, including two over RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg already during the weekend. OHAE had scored 15 over RHAW in the first two games of the series combined, with that offence continuing into Sunday. RHA Winnipeg had won just once heading into Sunday, and while they posted their highest offensive output of the season, the offence from OHA Edmonton outdid their efforts. Finn Sample (3G, 2A) scored a hat-trick, and Nolan Ryan (1G, 4A) had five points of his own, as OHA Edmonton scored 12 goals in the victory.
Prairie Hockey Academy (2) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (4) U18 Prep
Prairie would have the early upper hand on RHA Kelowna, connecting on a pretty 2-on-1 between Seamus Dillon and Grant Gliege. Prairie’s lead would last until the second where the sharpshooting Rhett Tubello (2G, 1A) would get RHA Kelowna on the scoresheet with his fifth goal of the season. Prairie had outshot RHA Kelowna through the opening two frame, but RHA Kelowna would find their groove in the third, outshooting Prairie 20-12 and scoring three unanswered. Joshua Johnstone would cram home the go ahead tally while Tubello struck on the powerplay to make it a goal advantage. Reid Rabinovitch (1G, 1A) would add the empty netter to seal the game. Easton Nafziger would get one back for Prairie late, only putting a minor dent in Micah Davidson’s outstanding 41 save performance. Davidson improves to 3-0-0-0 on the year between the pipes, even adding an assist to his totals in this contest as well.
South Alberta Hockey Academy (3/OT) vs Yale Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep
Just under three minutes into play, Dylan Sherban continued his strong weekend in Delta with his third of the season to put SAHA up by one. However, Yale would get the better of SAHA in the second after killing a swack of early penalties. Chris Kokkoris would connect with Matteo Di Stefano to put Yale on the scoresheet while Tony Cabelka picked a corner later in the frame to give the Lions their first lead of the match. Fast forward to the third as Kingston Chisholm (2G) would score his first of the year to tie this one up at 2-2. The rest of the frame would end in a deadlock, forcing this into overtime. After sustained possession, Chisholm would turn on the jets from his own end, springing himself on a partial break where he would make no mistake and beat Jason Ho (40/43) around his right pad, securing the win for SAHA in dramatic fashion and closing their weekend with an overall 2-1-0-0 record.
OHA Edmonton (2) vs BWC Academy (4) U18 Prep
After outshooting OHA Edmonton 13-6 in the opening frame, BWC Academy would finally be rewarded with the lead after Zephyr Harms scored in the final minute of the period. In the second, Regina Pats prospect Logan Henry (1G, 1A) would bury a shorthanded goal to extend BWC Academy’s lead. However, BWC Academy would continue to put themselves in penalty trouble, leading to a powerplay goal by OHA Edmonton’s Ben Shaw to cut the deficit back to one. BWC Academy would end the frame on top with another late period goal, this time thanks to Luca Martyniuk (1G, 1A). In the final frame, it was OHA Edmonton’s turn for a shorthanded goal as Liam McFadden scored his first of the season with a man down, giving OHA Edmonton some life. OHA Edmonton would outshoot BWC Academy in the final frame but could not find another answer for Josh Wu (27/29). Dominic Seminoff would score one final goal late to put this out of reach for OHA Edmonton, sealing the win for BWC Academy to close out their weekend.
Northern Alberta Xtreme (7) vs OHA Edmonton (3) U17 Prep
Penticton Vees prospect Nash Weyland would nab his first of the season just over a minute in to grant NAX the early lead but a quick response from Bryce McCrindle would bring us right back to square one. Before the end of the first, Donny Sewall would restore NAX’s lead. NAX’s pressure would continue in the second as Kellen Schmidt and Channon Fummerton (1G, 1A) would score back-to-back in quick succession to extend NAX’s lead to 4-1. Kaysun Brunham would add another to OHA Edmonton’s total with 12-seconds left in the frame while Noah Stone opened the scoring in the third to give OHA Edmonton an opportunity heading further into the third. However, NAX would find their touch once again, scoring three unanswered to put this game to rest. Dawson Sheehan (27/30) recorded the win between the pipes, steering aside 27 shots from OHA Edmonton.
Notre Dame Hounds (8) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (5) U18 Prep
After surrendering the first goal to Alijah Lodhar of Wenatchee, Notre Dame was able to catch a hot streak in the offensive department. Joe Wakabayashi (2G) and Rio Minotti (1G, 2A) were able to give the Hounds the lead through twenty while they would add another four in the second period alone including a pretty passing play between Brady Goyer (1G, 1A) and Bende Szongoth (1G, 1A). Wenatchee’s Anderson Carter (2G) would bury the opening goal in the third to try and spark something for the Wild. However Wakabayashi and Lewis Brown (2G) would each nab their second of the evening to put this out of reach for Wenatchee.
Northern Alberta Xtreme (4) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep
An early exchange of goals between OHA and NAX would kick off our Sunday Featured Game. Landon Nagle and Talon Scinocca would connect for the initial goal for OHA while Lethbridge Hurricanes prospect Luka Samu would wire home his second of the campaign. However, the tables would turn in OHA’s favour after Maxx Parfitt buried a beautiful move on a penalty shot. The momentum would continue to run in OHA’s favour as Linkin Stadnek potted OHA’s third of the period. NAX would show some push back in the second, outshooting OHA 14-5, finally being rewarded with a goal late in the frame as Brady Ondrus crammed home NAX’s second of the evening. The tides would turn in the third period after an OHA penalty halfway through the frame. Joel Ngandu would (1G, 1A) wire one home past Charlie Peppinck (34/38) to tie this contest up for the first time since the opening period. Soon after, Derek Langkow would go shortside, giving NAX their first lead of the game which they would hold on to, completing the comeback against their BC rivals. Karter Gibson (25/28) kept his composure in the third, stopping all 12 OHA shots en route to victory.
Ontario Hockey Academy (0) vs Delta Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep
Our final game of the weekend was played like a game of chess for the opening forty minutes with neither team giving an inch in the scoring department. Delta had the edge in shots through the first two periods of play but the magnificent play of Kye Johnson (37/40) kept the hosts at bay. However, Delta would solve Johnson in the third after Caden Leibel scored a mere 64-seconds into the frame. He was quickly followed by Peter Banicevic and Bryson Roberts to turn this into a 3-0 game which they would hold on to till the buzzer sounded. Matthew Wong (30/30) recorded 30-saves in the win, collecting his second consecutive shutout. Wong has played immaculate to start the 2025/26 campaign, only allowing one goal against through his first three starts.
